Motivation

Visit the Sports Legislation Tracker

In 2009, The Sports Institute worked with legislators to pass the Lystedt Law, the first player protection law enacted in the United States. This was a major achievement that catalyzed additional sports safety regulations nationwide. However, all too often, this type of legislation is written in a way that’s difficult to understand, and specific regulations can be challenging to find. When the rules that keep athletes safe are tough to navigate it’s harder for legislators to enact new measures that keep pace with vital, sports safety research.

Approach

To empower stakeholders—parents, coaches, athletes, lawmakers and advocates—we built the Sports Legislation Tracker, which provides up-to-date information on national and statewide sports safety policies.

Where We Are

We use the Sports Legislation Tracker to monitor activities surrounding sports policy and explain how you may be affected by new and existing laws. Check it out now to learn more about sports safety laws in your state.
